There is considerable consolidation going on in what is termed white label community tools and companies. Today there was an announcement that Mzinga has acquired Prospero Is this a good idea, or simply and inevitable part of the maturation process?
I have mixed feelings personally. Since I've been in the online community for many years,it is gratifying to see that it's finally being taken seriously, but I worry about it becoming just another bottom line only part of business.
Of course there needs to be measurable results, but my experience with large consolidation is that the art is given over to the metrics, and I think that community is still largely a human undertaking, whether online or not.
It will be interesting to watch the trend, and I'd love to hear your thoughts
